6. Organize or assist in a cleanup/restoration. Our local landscape is always in need of a little TLC. Get involved in local cleanups such as clean your streams or volunteer at a nature preserve such as Kitty Todd.

7. Get involved in your local homeowners association or block group. Whether it's installing rain gardens or hosting "green living" speakers at a monthly meeting, working together with your neighbors is a great way to build a sustainable neighborhood.

8. Organize neighborhood sales to occur on the same day(s). While it may seem like common sense, holding neighborhood garage sales on the same weekend allows community members to efficiently shop for what they need and save money on gas!

9. Use native plants when landscaping islands or common areas. Native plants generally require less maintenance than their ornamental counterparts. In addition, most are perennials and increase in density over time.

10. Start a neighborhood compost pile. Whether using a bin or simple pile, a common compost location can benefit all members of a neighborhood.
