Rain gardens are natural areas that typically receive stormwater runoff from nearby impervious surfaces (e.g. rooftops or roads). They are usually planted in depressions or
bowl-shaped excavations where water drains via surface runoff or from a downspout. A variety of colorful wildflowers and grasses are often selected as plant material.
In the Toledo-Lucas County area, the Rain Garden Initiative is an active organization that promotes rain gardens, provides technical training,
and assists with installations.
Local groups are currently sponsoring a rain barrel and rain garden kit sale.
In addition, Olander Park will be sponsoring a build your own rain barrel workshop on May 17th - click here for more information.
