Community Garden Grants
In partnership with Toledo GROWS and OSU Extension-Lucas County, the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission awarded funding to 4 community gardens in Lucas County in 2020. As a result of receiving funding, these community organizations were able to improve upon or create community gardens.

2020 Community Garden Grant RecipientsJD Carter GardenThe JD Carter Garden is a neighborhood garden that fosters community and creates a gathering space for community members. Through the implementation of the Community Garden Grant, water access and compositing procedures were increased, signage and infrastructure improved, and a small fruit and vegetable stand was created.
Maria Rodriguez Community Garden at the Believe CenterThe Maria Rodriguez Community Garden works with youth to provide gardening education for their summer camps and preschool youth. Through the implementation of the Community Garden Grant, water access and compositing procedures were increased, gardening equipment and vegetable plants were acquired, and an irrigation system was installed.
Sonia Sotomayor Garden at Mayores Senior Center
The Sonia Sotomayor Garden grows produce that is shared with seniors who visit the center. Through the implementation of the Community Garden Grant, 4 new raised beds were installed, water access and compositing procedures were increased, and garden pathways and trellis structures were created.
Tatum ParkThe Tatum Park Garden is a neighborhood garden that encourages community and acts as gathering space, particularly for youth engagement. Through the implementation of the Community Garden Grant, a shed, solar lights, and gardening equipment were acquired and signage and infrastructure improved.
