Position Description
The Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission (housed in the Lucas County Commissioners Office) is seeking a part-time intern to serve as a Sustainability Specialist. The candidate will ideally begin service on July 11, 2022 and will serve until July 1, 2023, with an opportunity to extend their term.
Organization Background
The Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission (TLCSC) seeks to educate, engage, and act throughout the region around all issues connecting, natural, social, and economic systems. Using the Going Beyond Green Sustainability Plan as a framework, this group of stakeholders from local businesses, governments, and non-profit organizations supports and tells the story of sustainability efforts for our region.

Candidate will perform day to day service at the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission and serve for approximately 20 hours per week. Our office is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Work location will be at our office in downtown Toledo with possible remote work as well. Weekly schedule will be determined in advance in cooperation with Sustainability Project Manager. There will be occasional evenings and weekends. TLCSC will work to be flexible with regards to class schedules and other academic requirements. This position pays $12 per hour and a 1 year commitment to the position is strongly preferred.

Support activities related to the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission including:
- Leading the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission public engagement and marketing activities
- Promoting sustainable practices, networking, and education for local businesses through our Sustainable Business Network
- Outreach to local neighborhood groups to educate them on our sustainable neighborhood grant program
- Act as neighborhood liaison for various neighborhood revitalization projects, and ongoing work to engage with more neighborhoods
- Assist with event planning for our annual Ecofest event in the Spring and our bi-annual Beyond Green Celebration in the Fall
Daily Activities Include:
- Collaboration with governmental and community partners aligned with sustainability initiatives, recruitment of volunteers from those partner organizations.
- Administration of TLCSC social media activities, including maintenance of the Sustainability Commission website
- Coordinate and lead the public engagement and marketing activities
- Assist with coordination of other working groups and projects as needed
- Facilitate the planning of our annual Ecofest Toledo event and our bi-annual Beyond Green Celebration
- Research, data collection/analysis, and report-writing in support of projects/initiatives
Desired Skills
- Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, including those living in low-income or distressed neighborhoods
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Computer proficiency in email/internet research, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) and familiarity with Weebly is preferred.
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (occasional nights and weekends may be required)
- Basic understanding of sustainability principles and the triple bottom line

- Must be enrolled in a program at a 4-year accredited academic institution
- Have unexpired proof of status as a US citizen or possess unexpired permanent resident status and be able to provide documentation
- Be at least 18 years of age
